Privacy Policy

Chalkline is run by Decoded Lemon (Pty) Ltd. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the website at chalkline.club and the Chalkline apps for iOS and Android.

The short version

Teachers have accounts. Learners and parents do not — they open a link and read what the teacher published. We do not ask families for names, emails, or logins, and we do not build profiles of them. That stays true in the phone apps: a parent can follow a class and get notified about new homework without ever creating an account.

What we collect from teachers

  • Account details — your email address, your name, and optionally your school or tutoring centre name and logo. Used to sign you in and to label the classes you share.
  • Content you create — classes, subjects, activities, links and files you upload.
  • Sign-in provider identifiers — if you use Google or Apple to sign in, we receive the account identifier and email from them.

What we collect from learners and parents

Nothing that identifies you. Opening a class link does not create an account, and we do not store your name or email. Our servers keep ordinary web request logs for a short period to keep the service running and to stop abuse.

If you add a class to the Chalkline app on your phone, that device stores a random code it generates itself, and we store only a one-way hash of it — enough to recognise the device as a follower of that class, and not enough to identify you or to link two classes to the same person. If you turn on notifications we also store the notification token your phone's operating system issues, so we can tell you when new homework is posted. Leaving a class deletes both, and with them any further notifications for it.

Who we share data with

  • Supabase — our database, authentication and file storage provider.
  • Google Cloud — hosting for the website.
  • Apple and Google — payment processing if you subscribe. We never see your card details.

We do not sell your personal information.

Children

Chalkline is a tool for teachers and tutors. Accounts are for adults. Learners and parents use it without an account, so we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a teacher has published a child’s personal information, please report it — see our Community Guidelines.

How long we keep things

Your content stays until you delete it or delete your account. When you request account deletion we schedule it for 30 days later so you can change your mind; after that it is permanently removed, including your uploaded files. You can cancel at any point during those 30 days by signing in.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export or delete your data. Deleting your account is available in the app under Settings, and on the web at chalkline.club/account/delete. For anything else, write to info@chalkline.club.
